Southern Tier Travel Log ... Finally!

Back in March of last year, my buddy Jesse and I rode our bicycles from San Diego, California, to Tempe, Arizona. I've been struggling to find time to get the travel log up on the web site ever since. I finally found time during my Christmas break.

The trip took us through mountains, heat, hills, sand dunes, live bombing areas, and busy city streets. It was an amazing ride neither of us will soon forget.

Here are a few favorite quotes from the log: "We stopped at an scenic overlook and chatted to a vacationer, a young man tattooed on nearly every inch of his exposed torso and arms. As he smoked his cigarette and sipped his beer in the heat, he informed us that we were insane. But we already knew that."

"DANGER! YOU ARE TRANSITING A U.S. MILITARY LIVE BOMBING AREA. DO NOT LEAVE THE PAVED ROADWAY."

"There is something special about sunset in the desert. The air is comfortably warm and the sky seems more expansive than it did during the oppressive heat of the day. The peace that descends with the sun is like a sigh of relief, a reprieve so pleasant that one might just fall in love with this place."

"It’s interesting to see the sun creep up over the mountaintops to the east, knowing you’ll be on the other side of those mountains in just a few hours. Pedaling over the horizon like that gives a person a special appreciation of space and geography."
