<< yesterday | tomorrow >>

We got up at 4:15 a.m. and headed out at 5:45. We at a meal at the camp, it was sponsored by the Kiwanis of Crosby..

The trip was shorter today, only 58.0 miles... but headwinds hampered our efforts for the entire trip, except for 20 miles when we headed east.

There was a great rest stop at a farmhouse. They were selling strawberries, oranges, apples, bananas, and all the usual stuff. Their water was good and the people were friendly.

The last 13 miles were filled with hill after hill after hill. I would be relieved - I finally reached the top of a hill and I was anxious for the relief of a downhill slope when I raised my head to se the upcoming reprieve... and noticed one, two, THREE upcoming hills!! In the end, however, there was one, long downhill slope toward Tioga.

The Colorado tandem bikers were near us again today for most of the ride. Or at least they were near me. Jesse was way ahead of me, and Ron was 15 minutes behind me., and Philip was WAY behind all of us.

Ron, Jesse, and I arrived in Tioga at 11:45 a.m. We layed around until Philip arrived at 2:36 p.m. At least he made it. We were beginning to wonder.

Tomorrow, we head out on the "Century Ride", the 104.5 mile day! We were all glad to see the wind forecast posted on the board... West 15-25 mph. We will have a strong wind at our backs for the whole trip! There is, however, a chance of Tstorms. I don't mind rain, as long as it's not too heavy or hailing.

Rory told me the clicking in my bike is from the pedal. I will replace them (if that's the problem) when the ride is over.

Mr. Johnson saw us waiting for Philip at a rest stop today and suggested we go at our individual paces, and not wait for each other. It sounds good to me, but I'm not sure the others agree.

Mr. Johnson arrived shortly after we did, and said that it was a tough day, but he enjoyed it.

I mailed postcards to Gram & Gramp Signalness and Mom & Tim.

A car drives by the campground every minute or so. The locals seem very interested in us bikers... they stare at us as if we were crazy... either that or they stare at us in awe of our cycling determination. I tend to think it's the first. We probably are crazy.

I took a bunch of panoramic pictures today, and some close ups of sunflowers alongside the road. I hope they turn out.

Well I'd better get some rest. BIG day tomorrow.
