Busy, but not bad.March 28, 1999It's been a while since I updated, so I felt obligated to write something. First, let me say something about my previous entry. I apologize to any politicians I offended or may offend. i.e.: my roommate. I had just listened to Clinton in a press conference, so you can probably understand my feelings. Nothing said was direct and to the point. Every word was carefully chosen to avoid inferences or accusations. It's very hard to listen to someone speaking like that. Calc is pulling me down... but it seems there are enough good things going on to keep my morale afloat. I'm going to have to fight to keep a C in Calc III. That's bad. I haven't had a C since elementary school. Maybe it's not much harder than the other calc courses and I just don't care enough. It's hard to tell. Well, the good stuff. There's lots of it. I recently turned in my Sophomore honors portfolio, which if accepted will grant me full membership in the program. I am positive I'll get in. That's not the exciting part. Later, the director of the honors program and several others showed extreme interest in some of my photographs. Two people want to purchase prints suitable for framing. The price is yet to be determined, but the prospect of selling photographs sounds fun. Oh, and I'm also hoping to win the $200 scholarship for the best portfolio submitted. I think I've got a chance. In addition to selling photos, I may get the opportunity to do a little web design for my boss, Jerry. He needs to update his current web site, www.westernechoes.com, but the person currently working on it isn't too cooperative. I may get his job, or I may not. I'll find out this week. So it would seem my skills are somewhat in demand lately. No complaints here. On a different topic, the snow is almost gone. The coulee that flows through campus is flooding to a good extent. It's got a few more feet to go before it does any damage, but it's full all the same. I don't know how the river is doing, as I don't get over there very often. The chance of a major flood in Grand Forks this year is not high. Darn, and so many people were hoping to get out of final exams. Oh well. At least we'll have a campus to come back to in the fall. I've started looking for some co-op or internship positions to apply for. Maybe I'll find a summer position or some work for the fall/spring semester next year. But the interesting part is that, while writing my résumé I noticed I am more of a publisher / photographer than I am computer scientist. It also became clearer than ever before that I'd enjoy those occupations more than I would enjoy programming, etc. So, what should I do now? I'm almost a junior in college and I've sort of reached the conclusion I should have studied something else. Bummer. ~ |
