Homelessness and evil poodles

November 14, 1999

I'm not sure what it is, but it may have something to do with sitting at the computer for too many consecutive hours. Last night, I sat at my desk programming away at some client-server application for one of my classes. I spent about thirteen hours on that program yesterday, and all it does is echo back a line of text to the client. How rewarding to have written that application... especially knowing that once I hand it in, it will probably never be used after this class.

Anyway, upon finishing my useless program and eating some ramen noodles at three a.m., I went to bed. Sleep did not work out. I know I was sleep deprived, but it sure was a restless night. The one cool thing about restless sleep is that you often remember fragments of dreams. Well, at least that's the case with me. Only fragments come to mind, but I can't even imagine the rest of the story line. I know my dream involved me being homeless, wandering some large city. At one point, I met up with a really cool stray dog (not a poodle. Poodles are not in any way cool in my humble opinion). The stray dog and I walked the streets together for some time. At another point in my restless night, there were hundreds of evil little poodles chasing me. I remember jumping fences to escape them. The weird part is that the poodles jumped right over after me. I can still see it. The countless multitudes of little, white dogs streaming over the fence. It kind of reminds me of the that scene in The Lion King when the wildebeests stampede. Tell me, please, what does that mean?

Well, hey. I should get away from this evil contraption and get outdoors for at least a little bit today. I just got out of bed, and it looks nice outside. I just wish I could take the day off, but I cannot. I've got to work on www.westernechoes.com. I shouldn't complain, as I'm makin' $10 per hour on that site, but I am just tired of using the computer. Oh, I suppose you're wondering why the first thing I do when I get up after a night like last night is get on my computer. Well, I had to tell you about the evil poodles.

Like I said, I don't remember the whole dream. I'm not sure if the poodles actually caught me. But thinking back to my view of the poodle stampede (which was a rather low viewpoint as I had to look up to see them jumping this fence) I may have been caught. Maybe I should get a rabies shot?

OK, I'm getting away from the computer now.
