| << YESTERDAY | INDEX | TOMORROW >> |
Friday Finally, an excellent night of sleep! Because we are all ahead of schedule on our houses we were able to sleep later than usual. After a breakfast of scrambled eggs and ham sandwiches Once at the work site, we spend a few hours cutting a window, building a door, and putting the finishing touches on the structure. The family said they would take care of the rain gutter, so we didn't take time to install it. And just like that, we were finished. Pictured above is my team in front of the completed home: Kelsy, Breanne, Dave, myself, Elizabeth, and our construction leader Edgar. Here is a photo of the interior of the home: Just after we finished the house, the Son of Cortez (the new homeowner) stopped by to see our work. We couldn't understand much of his Spanish, but we did comprehend his extreme satisfaction and gratitude. He said he can't afford such a building for his father on his own. Soon, Cortez gave us letters to express the family's gratitude. It explains how the house will protect his family from the cold, wind, and rain. Miralda drew a big heart on each of the letters, coloring it with the new crayons our group gave her. Fr. Shea arrived later on to bless the house Walking down 1st Avenue to Cafe No Sé, where we had supper: Tomorrow, we ride to Chichcastenango. |
